Touch Tunes Tax Issue Resolved
Effective
May 1, 2009 Touch Tunes will no longer charge sales tax
on music and service for jukeboxes located in Michigan. Touch
Tunes is in the process of gathering information that may
lead to a refund of taxes paid from January 1, 2008 through
April 30, 2009. More information will be posted as
it is available.
Stolen Countertops
In the
past few months many locations have had countertops stolen
by individuals posing as service technicians. This
has occurred at various times of the day, mostly in and around
the Detroit area.
Please be aware of this situation and if you have had a
countertop stolen, please contact Byron Howard, Shaffer Distributing,
734-432-1040 or John Pascaretti, Wolverine American, 313-937-4600
with the serial number in the event the machine shows up
at their distributing center, or if they are contacted regarding
that machine.
Senate Bill 228
Recently,
legislation was introduced in Michigan to eliminate the
sales tax exception on vending machines. The legislation
requires the tax to be calculated from the gross sales at
retail value. MCMOA is opposed to the legislation and
has asked our governmental affairs group to follow this legislation
closely. We will keep our members posted if anything
further develops with this issue.
